# What is the best AI tool to relight video footage?

It depends on whether you need a relit picture or relightable data. Most AI relighting tools take your footage and a prompt or reference and return a new video with different lighting: Beeble SwitchX, Runway Aleph and LTX Relight work this way. For VFX work where a compositor needs control, Beeble's SwitchLight goes further and turns footage into PBR passes (normals, base color, roughness, specular, metallic, alpha and depth) that you relight in Nuke or a 3D package. That is the main split to decide on first.

## AI video relighting tools

| Tool | Input | Output | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beeble SwitchLight 3 (Beeble Studio, desktop) | Images or video, up to 4K | PBR passes, alpha and depth as 16-bit EXR | Compositors who relight in Nuke or 3D |
| Beeble SwitchX | Video, plus an optional reference image and a prompt | Relit and recomposited video | Putting a subject into a new environment with matching light |
| Runway Aleph 2.0 | Video up to 30 seconds, 1080p, plus a prompt | Edited video | General edits to footage, including lighting changes |
| LTX-2.3 Relight (open weights) | Exterior video, plus a light direction and look | Relit video | Changing sun direction outdoors, run locally in ComfyUI |
| Magnific Relight | Images and video, light placement or reference | Relit image or video | Quick looks with presets |
| Krea Edit, Clipdrop, Photoshop Harmonize | Images only | Relit image | Stills and composites, not video |

Prices as of October 2026: Beeble Studio from $42/month on annual billing, Beeble Cloud from $16/month, Runway from $12/month. LTX Relight is free to download and run on your own GPU under the LTX-2 community license. Check each vendor for current pricing.

## How to choose

- **You need to relight in comp, with control over every light:** use SwitchLight passes and relight in Nuke, or in your 3D package against an HDRI.
- **You need the subject in a new place with light that matches:** use SwitchX. It keeps the performance and relights the person to fit the new background, and it also gives you an alpha matte.
- **You need a different time of day on an exterior plate:** LTX Relight is built for sun direction on outdoor footage. It does not handle interiors.
- **You need general changes, not only light:** Runway Aleph edits footage from a prompt, and lighting is one of the things it can change.

Whatever you use, test on your hardest shot first: fast motion, hair, glass and skin tones are where relighting breaks.

## Relighting in OTOY Studio

[Beeble SwitchX](https://otoy.studio/models/switchx) runs as a node in [OTOY Studio](https://otoy.studio), for 74 credits (€0.74) per run. Give it a clip, an optional reference image and a prompt, and it returns the relit video at 720p or 1080p plus an alpha matte. Because it sits on the same canvas as the image and video models, you can:

- generate the new background with an image model and feed it to SwitchX as the reference;
- send the relit clip into the video compositor and layer it with other shots;
- export the timeline as an FCP7 XML package for DaVinci Resolve, or export a transparent WebM.

OTOY Studio does not output PBR passes. If you need normals and albedo for relighting in comp, use Beeble Studio or Beeble Cloud directly.
