# fal.ai vs OTOY Studio

They are built for different people. fal.ai is a developer platform: an API with 1,000+ image, video, audio and 3D models, priced per output with no subscription, plus serverless GPUs for running your own models. OTOY Studio is a node canvas for artists and studios: 111 models you connect visually, with Gaussian splat training, a 3D scene editor and a video compositor, priced in credits with a monthly free allowance. Use fal if you are writing code to generate media inside a product. Use OTOY Studio if you are making the media yourself.

## Choose fal.ai if

- You need an API or webhooks to generate media inside your own app.
- You want to deploy your own model or LoRA on GPUs billed by the second.
- You generate at high volume and want the lowest unit price per output.

## Choose OTOY Studio if

- You want to see every step: compare three video models on one shot, pick the best, upscale it and cut it, without code. See [all AI video models in one place](https://otoy.studio/answers/all-ai-video-models-in-one-place).
- You work in 3D or with Gaussian splats. See [how to make a Gaussian splat](https://otoy.studio/answers/how-to-make-a-gaussian-splat).
- You want a fixed monthly budget, with credit rollover on Pro and Ultra.

## Using both

A common pattern is to design and test a pipeline visually in OTOY Studio, then rebuild it as code on an API platform once it needs to run thousands of times. The other way works too: generate batches through an API, then bring the picks into OTOY Studio to upscale, edit and export.
