v3.48.0
This release adds a dedicated frame capture tool to the video compositor and introduces a completely redesigned node selection panel for the canvas. The Director console also sees significant layout and interaction refinements.
Save frame from video compositor
You can now save a single frame from the video compositor to your asset library. A new Save frame button composites the frame under the playhead at the full output resolution, including all mattes, edit sublayers, and the base plate. The resulting PNG is saved directly to your library with alpha preserved for transparent plates. Saved frames appear in the Generations tab alongside your renders, clearly marked with the compositor’s origin.
Redesigned add-node panel
The canvas features a new two-pane add-node panel that replaces the previous cascading dropdown. The left pane displays category lanes (Essentials, Video, Image, Audio, 3D, Utility), while the right pane shows the groups and nodes within the selected category. Your Favorites and Recent nodes are now prominently displayed at the top of the default Essentials pane for quick access. Search flattens all categories into a single list with breadcrumbs for easy navigation. The panel also adapts its layout when connecting nodes, showing a compact list filtered by data type compatibility.
Quality of life
- On the canvas: Node input/output handles now compress their spacing to fit within the node’s height, preventing handles from rendering below the node body on nodes with many connections.
- In the Director: Scrubbing a video clip now updates the preview image in real-time.
- In the Director: The session list now fills the available column height instead of being capped.
- In the Director: Start session controls have moved into the parameter panel alongside cost calculations.
- In the Director: A new “Load multiple frames” zone allows adding several images to the tray before a session starts.
- In the compositor: Compositor outputs now use a film icon instead of the OTOY brand mark in the library.
