What are the best Jawset Postshot alternatives?

Postshot is one of the best desktop splat trainers, but it needs Windows 10+ and an NVIDIA GPU (RTX 2060 or better), and its free tier is non-commercial and can't export PLY or SPZ splats. Exporting needs Indie, at €17/month billed yearly. If any of that rules it out, the main alternatives are: Brush (free, runs on Mac, AMD and in the browser), OpenSplat (free, Mac Metal, AMD or CPU), Scaniverse (on-device on iPhone), Polycam (cloud, from $150/year) and OTOY Studio (cloud, pay per scene from 10 credits (€0.10), in the browser on any computer).

Where Postshot is still the better pick

  • You have an RTX card and want everything local: Postshot never uploads your images.
  • You render splats in Unreal or After Effects with Postshot's own plugins.
  • You need Studio-tier output: EXR, HDR and more than 4K renders.

Switching from Postshot to OTOY Studio

  1. Use the same photos or video you'd give Postshot: 10 to 500 overlapping images, one video, or a ZIP of frames. OTOY Studio runs camera solving itself, so you don't need COLMAP.
  2. Add a Gaussian Splat node, connect the input and run it. For few photos (3 to 35), use InstantSplat, which needs no camera solve.
  3. Download the PLY (standard or OctaneGS-optimised). For Unreal, Unity, Blender or After Effects, load it with the same splat plugins you'd use for a Postshot PLY export.
