OTOY Studio vs ComfyUI

ComfyUI is the most flexible node-based AI tool there is. It is free, open source and runs on your own GPU, with thousands of community custom nodes, LoRAs and new research models days after release. OTOY Studio is a hosted node canvas. Nothing to install, no GPU, 111 models already connected (mostly closed models like Veo 3.1, Kling, Seedance and Nano Banana Pro, plus 3D and Gaussian splats), and a published price per run. For a small studio, the question is whether you need ComfyUI's control over open models, or would rather skip the setup and maintenance to work with closed models.

Choose ComfyUI if

  • You rely on open-weight models, LoRAs, ControlNet-style conditioning or custom nodes.
  • You have GPUs, or someone on the team who enjoys managing environments, and want the lowest cost per image.
  • You need to deploy a workflow as an API.
  • You want the newest research nodes as soon as they ship.

Choose OTOY Studio if

  • Most of your work uses closed models like Veo, Kling, Seedance and Nano Banana, and you want them in one graph without wiring API keys.
  • You need 3D and Gaussian splats next to video. You can make a splat of a location, render a camera move from it, and use that as the reference for a video model. See AI video with 3D control.
  • Artists on the team shouldn't have to deal with installs, drivers and broken custom nodes.
  • You want to know the price before you run. Every model and setting has a published credit price on its model page.

Moving a ComfyUI workflow to OTOY Studio

OTOY Studio does not import ComfyUI workflow JSON or run custom nodes, so you rebuild the graph. Most production graphs are short, so this usually takes minutes.

  1. List the models. Write down which models your graph calls. Closed models like Kling, Veo, Seedance and Nano Banana are built in, with no API keys. Check the open ones against all models. Wan, LTX, FLUX, Qwen Image, Hunyuan3D and Trellis are there.
  2. Rebuild the chain. Add one node per model and connect them in the same order: prompt, image model, video model, upscaler. Uploads replace your load-image nodes.
  3. Keep what needs ComfyUI in ComfyUI. LoRAs, ControlNet stacks and custom nodes stay local. Export the result as an image, video, GLB or PLY and bring it into OTOY Studio for the steps that need closed models, 3D or splats.
  4. Save the graph and run it again on the next shot with new inputs.

Using both

Many studios do. ComfyUI handles the open-model and LoRA work locally, and a hosted canvas handles the closed models, 3D and splats. Files move between them as images, video, GLB meshes and PLY splats.
