How to retexture a 3D model with AI
How do I put a new texture on an existing 3D model with AI?
Use Meshy 5 Retexture. It takes a 3D model you already have, from your own pipeline or generated in OTOY Studio, plus a prompt or a reference image, and paints a new texture onto the same mesh. The geometry stays the same, so it still fits your scene and your rig.
Models that do this
| Model | Maker | Pick it for | Takes | Credits per run |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Meshy 5 Retexture | Meshy | New texture on an existing mesh | Prompt plus 3D model or image | 28 (from €0.28) |
| TripoSR Remesh | Stability AI and Tripo | Cleans up the mesh first, if needed | Prompt plus 3D model | 2 (from €0.02) |
The lowest-cost option here is TripoSR Remesh, from 2 credits (€0.02) per run. Credits are OTOY Studio's currency: 1 credit = €0.01. Prices are list prices before plan discounts (paid plans take 10% to 25% off every run). Every model is on every plan, including Free.
How to do it in OTOY Studio
- Upload the mesh, or connect a 3D output from another node.
- Add a Meshy 5 Retexture node and connect the mesh.
- Describe the material in the prompt ("weathered bronze", "matte red plastic") or connect a reference image.
- Run it, then download the retextured model.
