How do I use AI-generated 3D models and Gaussian splats in Unreal Engine?

Download 3D models from OTOY Studio as GLB and import them into Unreal Engine 5, which reads glTF natively through Interchange. Gaussian splats download as PLY. Unreal can't render splats natively, so use a plugin, such as the free, open-source XV3DGS plugin (Apache 2.0). Video downloads as H.264 MP4, which Unreal's Electra Media Player plays. For a whole explorable world, World Labs Marble in OTOY Studio gives a splat plus a collider GLB you can use for collision under it. Checked against OTOY Studio and Epic's documentation, October 2026.

Formats, by asset

From OTOY Studio Download as Into Unreal Engine 5
3D model (Meshy, Rodin, Hunyuan3D, Trellis, TripoSR, SAM 3D, Seed3D) GLB from every model, FBX from Meshy, Rodin and TripoSR remesh Native glTF import through Interchange. FBX also imports natively
Gaussian splat (Gaussian Splat, InstantSplat, Sharp, TripoSplat) PLY, including an OctaneGS-optimised PLY Third-party: XV3DGS (free, Apache 2.0), Luma AI plugin on Fab (free), or Volinga (paid)
World Labs Marble world SPZ splat, collider GLB, panorama image Convert the SPZ to PLY in OTOY Studio's splat editor for the plugins. Import the collider GLB as the collision mesh
3D world mesh (Hunyuan World) GLB Native glTF import
Video for screens or backgrounds MP4 (H.264) Electra Media Player
Textures and concept art PNG, JPEG or WebP, up to 4K from Nano Banana Pro and FLUX 3 Native import

Steps: a splat environment

  1. In OTOY Studio, train a splat from 10 to 500 photos or a video with the Gaussian Splat node.
  2. Clean it up in the splat editor if needed and download the PLY.
  3. In Unreal, install XV3DGS and import the PLY with it.
  4. For collision, generate or model a simple mesh, or use Marble's collider GLB if you built the world with Marble.

What to watch for

  • The 2D Gaussian Splat node's depth maps are per camera view, not top-down heightmaps, so don't use them as landscape heightmaps.
  • No camera data export for matching shots.
  • Some generated GLBs are dense. Use Unreal's Nanite or reduce them before using many in a level.
